MAN of the moment Andries van der Vyver has said that trusting his process, believing in his game, and having solid support around him have been key to his fine form, which saw him claim back-to-back titles following a four-shot victory at the Cape Town Junior Open held at Robertson Golf Club in South Africa over the weekend.
Speaking to Golf Africa, he said that self-belief had also been instrumental in his success, and he gave credit to those who have stood by him regardless of results. “Sometimes you get on a roll and then you must tell yourself to keep firing and don’t doubt yourself. The win at George was personal, I mean gaining a lot of confidence and I knew I could achieve so much more. Beating a couple of Protea players, I really want to represent my country… “Honestly, I don’t know how I keep on winning. I trust the process and my game. I am a very religious guy and I believe the Lord has given me a talent and I must use it. All the support and friends and family is my anchor as well. My girlfriend of 14 months has helped me realise that golf is not everything and she will love me and be happy for me with or without a win,” he said. The ever-smiling Van der Vyver added that he enjoys spreading positive energy, and that winning consecutive titles is a dream come true. He also believes there is still room for improvement in his game. “I like to smile a lot and try to improve someone else’s day. Kindness doesn’t cost anything and hopefully I can have an impact on someone else’s life. Believe me, I am very nervous. I just don’t show it but my heart can’t hold it! “Going back to back is a dream come true. I never thought I would achieve it. I am happy to be able to do it and couldn’t have asked for a better tournament, except the one bogey I made, which I could have shot 59 and go bogey free in the tournament. But, I am still more than happy, and that shows me I can still improve and I have things to work towards,” he said.
At the Cape Town Junior Open, he carded an impressive 27-under-par 189 with round scores of 64, 65 and 60.
