COLE Stevens has maintained his lead at the top of the leaderboard following the conclusion of the second round of the Stella Artois Players Championship at Glendower Golf Club.
Stevens, who is chasing his maiden Sunshine Tour title, carded a two-under-par 70 in the second round to move to 12-under-par 132, giving him a one-shot advantage over Luke Brown heading into the weekend.
The South African professional started his second round with a bogey at the fifth before recording an outward 37. However, he recovered after the turn, picking up three birdies at the 11th, 12th and 18th for an inward 33, enough to maintain his lead at the top of the leaderboard.
Brown, who started the day in second place but four shots behind Stevens, managed to close the gap with a five-under-par 67. He is now on 11-under-par 133.
Brown enjoyed a flawless front nine, picking up birdies at the second, fourth, seventh and ninth for an outward 32. On the back nine, he birdied the 11th before recording a double bogey at the 14th. He then bounced back with birdies at the 17th and 18th for an inward 35 to keep the pressure on the leader.
Deon Germishuys sits in third place on 10-under-par 134 following a second-round 67, while Graham van der Merwe, Ruan Korb and Malan Potgieter share fourth place on nine-under-par 135.
