IDENTICAL second-round scores of three-under-par 68s by Willy Deus and Mutahi Kibugu propelled the pair into a share of the lead after round two of the SunDev Absa Invitational Series – Thika Greens, being played at Thika Greens Golf Resort in Kenya.

The duo now sit on six-under-par 136 and hold a two-stroke lead over the trio of Visitor Mapwanya, David Wakhu and Njoroge Kibugu, with 18 holes remaining in the tournament.

After both opened with 68s in the first round on Wednesday, Deus and Kibugu began Thursday’s second round two strokes behind overnight leader Dismas Indiza. Deus’ moving-day performance included seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. He made a double bogey on the second hole but recovered with consecutive birdies on the third and fourth holes. He added another birdie on the sixth to go out in 34. After the turn, Deus picked up four more birdies on holes 10, 13, 14 and 16 before dropping shots on the 17th and 18th for an inward 34. Kibugu carded an eagle, three birdies and two bogeys in his second round. The Kenyan professional bogeyed the third hole before responding with a birdie on the fourth and turned in 35. After the turn, he made another bogey on the 11th hole before birdieing the 14th and 17th. He closed the round in spectacular fashion with an eagle on the 18th for an inward 33.

The trio sharing third place are on four-under-par 138.
