ISABELLA Ferreira held her nerve to defeat Lourenda Steyn in a four-hole play-off and claim victory at the Gauteng North Women’s Open, which was held at Woodhill Country Club in Pretoria, South Africa, over the weekend.

Ferreira and Steyn had finished the regulation 54 holes tied on two-under-par 214, two shots clear of Charlotte Millard, forcing a play-off.

Ferreira, a member of George Golf Club, opened the tournament with a one-over-par 73, leaving her tied for fourth, two shots off the lead which was held by Millard who opened with a 71. Ferreira’s opening round featured three birdies, back to back on the second and third holes and another on the 17th – alongside four bogeys. On the penultimate round, Ferreira maintained her position on the leaderboard with a level-par 72 which comprised four birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey. She picked up birdies on the back nine, one holes number 12, 14, 17 and 18 while dropping shots on number five, six and 15. Her double bogey came on the sixth. She then went into the final round four shots behind the overnight leader, Casey Leah Twidale who was on three-under-par 141. She signed for a near-flawless closing three-under-par 69 where she dropped just a single shot to finish level with with Steyn. Her closing round comprised four birdies and one bogey. Steyn carded round scores of 74, 68 and 72. Millard finished on level-par 216 with scores of 71, 74 and 71.

Meanwhile, Wingate Park Country Club’s Natasha Anthony (+47) claimed victory in the B Division by a single shot, edging out Valda Ford (+48).
