A near-flawless opening round of nine-under-par 63 has seen Luke Brown take the early lead at the FNB Eswatini Challenge, which teed off at Ezulwini Golf and Country Club on Thursday.
Brown dropped just a single shot and holds a two-stroke lead over Daniel Cronje, Benjamin Kedochim, Dylan Mostert, Altin van der Merwe and Keegan McLachlan, who all opened with rounds of 65.
Coming into Eswatini on the back of an impressive performance at last week’s SunBet Challenge Time Square Casino, Brown produced a flawless outward nine. He made birdies at the first, fifth, seventh and ninth holes for an outward nine of 32.
On his inward nine, he made an eagle at the 14th, followed by birdies at the 13th and 14th before dropping a shot at the 15th. He then eagled the 17th for an inward nine of 31.
Of the players in second place, Kedochim, Mostert and McLachlan carded bogey-free rounds.
With five golfers sharing second place, Jacques Blaauw, Charl Barnard, Rupert Kaminski and Rhys Enoch complete the top 10, sharing seventh place on six-under-par 66.
