A flawless final-round eight-under-par 64 propelled Luke Brown to a two-shot victory over Ockie Strydom and Jonathan Broomhead at the SunBet Challenge Time Square Casino at Wingate Park Country Club on Friday.
Brown finished on 19-under-par 197 after 54 holes to claim his second Sunshine Tour title.
“One win is nice, but there is something special about being able to prove to yourself that you can do it more than once. I think that is what’s going to stick with me more than anything else,” said Brown (via Sunshine Tour).
Going into the final round tied for fifth place and four shots off the lead, Brown picked up four birdies on the front nine. He made gains on the fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth holes for an outward 31.
After the turn, Brown added further birdies on the 10th and 11th, followed by an eagle on the 15th for an inward 33 to move up the leaderboard.
Strydom closed with a near-flawless 66 as he also climbed into a tie for second place after starting the day tied for fifth. His final round featured five birdies, on the first, 11th, 16th, 17th and 18th, and an eagle on the 15th. He dropped his only shot on the eighth.
Broomhead also signed for a 66, making eight birdies and two bogeys. He made gains on the second, fourth, sixth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th, while dropping shots on the first and eighth.
The duo finished on 17-under-par 199.
James Mack finished fourth on 16-under-par 200, while Tristan Leonard, Benjamin Kodechim, Travis Procter, Daniel Cronje and Herman Loubser shared fifth place on 14-under-par 202.
For the win, Brown earned 380.40 Order of Merit points.
