KENYAN professional Erick Ooko Obura has set the early pace at the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing 4 Absa Invitational, which teed off at Nyali Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

Obura opened with a three-under-par 68 to hold a one-shot lead over the second-placed trio of Ideriah Solomon, Mohit Mediratta and Celestin Nsanzuwera, who all carded two-under-par 69s.

Obura began his opening round with back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes before bogeying the third. He recovered with two more birdies at the fifth and eighth to make the turn in 33. He started the back nine with a birdie at the 11th before dropping shots at the 13th and 16th. However, he birdied the 17th to recover and card an inward 35. In second place, Solomon, Mediratta and Nsanzuwera each recorded four birdies and two bogeys.

Nine golfers, Abraham Galgalo, Taimur Malik, David Wakhu, Sunday Olapade, Phillip Kasozi, amateur Adel Balala, Greg Snow, Michael Karanga and amateur Josphat Rono, share fifth place on one-under-par 70.
