AMATEURS Luke Truter and Jaco Anderson enjoyed a brilliant start to the Betway Big Easy Blu Label Unlimited Invitational 3 as they share the lead at the top of the leaderboard following the opening round at Ruimsig Country Club on Tuesday.

The pair carded identical flawless rounds of eight-under-par 64 to hold a one-shot lead over Brandon-Lee Geere and Werner Deyzel.

On his front nine, Truter picked up three birdies at the fourth, sixth and eighth for an outward 33. After the turn, he produced a brilliant finish with five birdies over his final six holes. Truter made back-to-back birdies at the 13th and 14th, saved par at the 15th before reeling off three successive birdies at the 16th, 17th and 18th for an inward 31. Anderson, meanwhile, picked up four birdies on his front nine, making gains at the second, fifth, eighth and ninth to go out in 32. After the turn, he birdied the 13th before finishing strongly with three consecutive birdies at the 16th, 17th and 18th for an inward 32. In second place, Geere and Deyzel also returned flawless rounds, carding seven-under-par 65s. Geere made birdies at the fourth, eighth, ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th. Deyzel recorded five birdies at the third, fifth, ninth, 16th and 18th, while adding an eagle at the 14th. Phillip Geerts and Tristin Galant are tied for fifth place on six-under-par 66. Geerts produced a flawless round, while Galant dropped just a single shot.

Cole Stevens, Kian Coetzer and amateurs Amilkar Bhana and CJ van Wyk share seventh place on five-under-par 67.
