COLE Stevens will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the Stella Artois Players Championship at Glendower Golf Club.

Stevens, who is chasing his maiden Sunshine Tour victory, has led the tournament from the opening round and is now within reach of a breakthrough win with 18 holes remaining.

The South African professional carded a flawless eight-under-par 64 on moving day on Saturday to move to 20-under-par 196, while second-placed Luke Brown sits on 17-under-par 199.

Stevens started his round with a birdie at the first before reeling off four consecutive birdies between the third and sixth holes. He then eagled the seventh for an impressive outward nine of 29.

After the turn, he added another birdie at the 11th to complete his inward nine in 35.

“Everything just kind of fell together. Off the tee it wasn’t the best but I got a little bit fortunate to get some gaps and capitalise on the front nine. It was really fun out there,” said Stevens (via Sunshine Tour).

Brown signed for a flawless six-under-par 66, picking up birdies at the second, sixth, 11th and 18th holes, as well as an eagle at the 17th.

Deon Germishuys sits in third place on 15-under-par 201, while Jonathan Broomhead and Graham van der Merwe are tied for fourth on 13-under-par 203.

Malan Potgieter occupies sixth place on 11-under-par 205, with JJ Senekal, Warwick Purchase and Rowan Lester sharing seventh on 10-under-par 206.

Keegan Thomas completes the top 10 in 10th place on nine-under-par 207.
