LOUIS Albertse wrote his name into the Telkom PGA Championship history books after winning the 2026 edition at Country Club Johannesburg on Sunday.
Albertse finished the tournament on 27-under-par 261 to equal the second-best winning score in the tournament's history, alongside George Coetzee, who achieved the same score in 2011.
Their 27-under-par finishes are just one shot shy of the tournament's overall record of 28-under-par.
Albertse secured a three-shot victory over Kyle De Beer and Samuel Simpson. It was Albertse's fourth title on the Sunshine Tour.
“I’ve got my family here. It’s just been a special week. The golf course is great, and Telkom is such a great sponsor. This is such a great event,” said Albertse (via Sunshine Tour).
Albertse went into the final round holding a three-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard and closed out the tournament with a four-under-par 68.
He enjoyed a flawless front nine, picking up an eagle at the third hole before birdieing the sixth for an outward 33. After the turn, Albertse bogeyed the 11th, birdied the 12th before dropping another shot at the 13th. He followed that with a birdie at the 14th before adding another at the 18th to card an inward 35.
De Beer and Simpson finished on 24-under-par 264 after closing with rounds of 67 and 68 respectively. Luke Brown finished fourth on 23-under-par 265.
Daniel van Tonder and Joe Sullivan shared fifth place on 22-under-par 266, while Dean Burmester secured seventh place on 21-under-par 267. Jaco Prinsloo and Daniel Cronje shared eighth place on 20-under-par 268.
