BENJAMIN Weber maintained his position at the top of the leaderboard in the season-opening Nomads Coastal National Order of Merit 1 (Boys’ Division) following the completion of the second round at Selborne Golf Club in Pennington, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on Tuesday.

Weber carded a three-under-par 69 in the second round to move to 11-under-par 133 overall, opening up a four-shot lead over Nicolas van der Vyver, who climbed into second place.

Starting the day with a three-shot advantage over Jayden Hoskins, Weber, who opened the tournament with a superb 64, recorded six birdies and three bogeys on moving day. On his front nine, he made gains on holes one, five, seven and nine, while dropping a shot at the fourth to turn in 31. On the back nine, he added further birdies on the 12th and 18th, while making bogeys on the 10th and 17th for an inward 36. That was enough to see him retain his place at the top of the leaderboard with 18 holes left to play. Van der Vyver moved up six places into second with an excellent six-under-par 66, a round that included four birdies, two eagles and two bogeys. In the girls’ division, Meegan Webster, who was part of a three-way tie for first after the opening round, claimed the outright lead following round two. After opening with an eight-over-par 80, Webster carded a six-over-par 78 on moving day. She sits at 14-over-par 158 overall, one shot ahead of Taylor Hope on 15-over-par 159, following rounds of 81 and 78.

The final round takes place on Wednesday.
