A crucial par save on the 18th hole ensured that in-form Casey Jarvis will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the 115th Investec South African Open at Stellenbosch Golf Club.
He leads Hennie du Plessis and overnight leader Francesco Laporta, who share second place on 10-under-par 200. Jarvis was delighted with his par-saving putt on the 18th, which he described as one of his greatest putts in front of a home crowd. “I was actually just thinking as I was finishing off my scorecard that it could be one of my greatest putts in front of a home crowd, so I think that was a really cool moment. Obviously it’s good momentum heading into tomorrow. To make that putt was really nice. “I really enjoyed it, I played really nicely out there. It wasn’t easy. The home support is fantastic and I’m really, really looking forward to tomorrow. The experience is great, the course and the home fans are amazing and I love playing here,” said Jarvis (via DP World Tour). The South African professional made six birdies during his third round. On his front nine, he picked up shots at the second, eighth and ninth to go out in 32. After the turn, he added further birdies at the 11th, 12th and 17th before producing a par-saving putt from over 20 feet at the 18th, which he celebrated with pride.
Du Plessis signed for a third-round 67, while Laporta posted a level-par 70. Calum Hill sits fourth on eight-under-par 202.
