CHARLOTTE Millard held her nerve to secure a play-off victory over Isabella Ferreira at the SA Women’s Amateur Strokeplay Championship at The Els Club at Copperleaf on Tuesday.
Going into the final round on nine-under-par 135, holding a one-shot lead over Ferreira, who was on eight-under-par 136, Millard closed with a level-par 72. Her closing 72 included four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. She dropped a shot at the first hole, followed it with a birdie at the second before going on to bogey the fifth. She recovered with another birdie at the eighth for an outward 36. After the turn, Millard added a further birdie at the 10th, made a double bogey at the 15th and then closed with a birdie at the 18th for an inward 36. Earlier, Millard had opened with a flawless nine-under-par 63, which featured nine birdies. On moving day, she carded a level-par 72.
Ferreira, who had to settle for second place, returned rounds of 69, 67 and 71. Keisha Louw finished third on seven-under-par 209 with round scores of 69, 70 and 70.
