ZIMBABWEAN prodigy Munesu Chimhini has taken the early lead at the 2026 First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Open, taking place at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate in Harare.

Chimhini carded an opening five-under-par 67 to hold a one-shot advantage over a South African quartet comprising Craig Cilliers, Ruben-Hein Churr, Connor Olfsen and Alexander Frankel.

The Zimbabwean youngster dropped just a single shot during his round, bogeying the third hole before recovering with birdies at the sixth and eighth for an outward 35. After the turn, Chimhini eagled the 12th, followed by further birdies at the 16th and 18th to post a flawless inward 32. South Africa’s Gia Raad leads the girls’ leaderboard after opening with a four-under-par 68. Her round featured six birdies, at the fourth, fifth, ninth, 13th, 16th and 17th, while she dropped shots at the eighth and 14th.

Raad holds a two-shot lead over Zimbabwe’s Miriam Masiya and compatriot Phenyo Sebata, who both carded rounds of 70.
