DARREN Fichardt was the top-performing South African golfer at the DP World Tour-sanctioned Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at The Belfry Hotel & Resort in Sutton Coldfield, England.
The Tour veteran, Fichardt, began the tournament with a one-under-par 71 in the opening round, leaving him five shots behind fellow South African Thomas Aiken, who shared the lead with Haotong Li, Mathias Schwab, and Marcel Siem after carding rounds of 66. Fichardt followed up with a level-par 72 in the second round and then posted a superb four-under-par 68 on moving day, his best round of the tournament. He entered the final day tied for 27th on five-under and closed with a three-under-par 69 to climb the leaderboard. Brandon Stone was the next best-placed South African, finishing tied for 27th on five-under-par 283, while Jayden Schaper ended tied for 54th on one-over-par 289. Aiken, who had shared the lead after the first round, finished tied for 59th on three-over-par 291. MJ Daffue closed out the South African contingent in tied 64th on five-over-par 293. For his 13th place finish, Fichardt earned 72.16 Race to Dubai Ranking points. Stone collected 45.75 points, Schaper 19, Aiken 15.25, and Daffue 12.25. Tournament winner Noren carded a 16-under-par 272, finishing one stroke ahead of Nicolai Højgaard and Kazuma Kobori, who tied for second on 15-under-par 273.
The next event on the DP World Tour is the Omega European Masters, scheduled to take place at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, from August 28 to 31.
