Lawrence secured a play-off victory over Paul Casey to join Seve Ballesteros as the only three-time winners of the tournament since 1972. He also successfully defended the title, having won it last year and in 2022.

He became the eighth South African winner on the DP World Tour this season, while this was also his sixth overall DP World Tour victory.

Lawrence and Casey finished tied on 18-under-par 262, forcing a play-off, which the former won on the fourth hole after they could not be separated after three attempts.

“It’s crazy, it’s probably the most emotion I’ve ever shown like in a happy way, normally I cry. I can’t believe it, I fought so hard today and just gave it my everything. I feel for Paul, he played great and it looked like it was his even in the play-off.

“It’s just the best feeling in the world, honestly the best feeling in the world,” said Lawrence (via DP World Tour).

After a challenging third round, in which he carded a three-over-par 73 following opening rounds of 64 and 63, Lawrence went into the final round six shots behind Paul.

He responded with a brilliant, flawless closing 62.

He picked up four birdies on his front nine at the second, fourth, fifth and seventh holes for an outward 31. After the turn, he added four more birdies at the 10th, 12th, 14th and 17th holes for an inward 31.
