Johndre Ludick's KZN Amateur Matchplay Championship Winning Poster

FOLLOWING his victory at the KZN Amateur Strokeplay Qualifier, Johndre Ludick made it a memorable double by clinching the KZN Amateur Matchplay Championship held at Selborne Golf Club in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, over the weekend.

GolfRSA’s number four-ranked amateur defeated fellow national squad teammate Devon Valentine 4&2 in the final to claim top honours and complete a remarkable KZN Amateur double.

Speaking to Golf Africa, Ludick revealed that his earlier triumph in the Strokeplay Championship had given him the belief that he could replicate the feat. He also attributed his recent success to having more time to focus on his game after completing school. Ludick added that the tours that he has went on with the national side also aided his game. “With me being done with school this year, I have had some extra time to work on my game and I have also gained a lot of experience from all the tours I went on this year with GolfRSA. The win at KZN Strokeplay gave me a lot of confidence by telling myself that I have done this before and I can do it again,” said Ludick. Ludick began his Matchplay campaign by defeating Tylo Naidoo 5&4 in the round of 32. That set up a round of 16 clash against Janco Kruger, who had edged past Keegan du Plessis 2&1 in the opening match. In the last 16, the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club golfer overcame Kruger 4&3 to book a place in the quarter-finals, where he faced Byron Coetzee. Ludick continued his strong form, beating Coetzee 2&1 to progress to the semi-finals. There, he saw off Ruben van der Berg to secure a place in the final against Valentine, who had defeated Timothy Daniels 3&2 in the other semi-final.

Earlier, Ludick had won the KZN Amateur Strokeplay Qualifier by six shots.
