PORTUGUESE professional Stephen Ferreira and Zimbabwean professional Visitor Mapwanya share the lead at the top of the leaderboard following the opening round of the Lowveld Pro-Am at Triangle Country Club on Friday.

The duo carded five-under-par 67s to hold a one-shot lead over Stuart Krog, Sydney Wemba and Nyasha Muyambo, who are tied for third on four-under-par 68.

Ferreira produced a near-flawless opening round, dropping just one shot. He birdied the third hole, added another at the fifth before bogeying the sixth, and picked up a further birdie at the ninth to make the turn in 34. After the turn, Ferreira added three more birdies at the 12th, 14th and 15th for a blemish-free inward 33. Mapwanya, meanwhile, enjoyed a flawless opening round, collecting five birdies. He birdied the first, second and fifth holes for an outward 33 before adding two more at the 10th and 13th to come home in 34. With Krog, Wemba and Muyambo tied for third, Darlington Chikanyambidze sits sixth on three-under-par 69.

Philip Tshuma, Simon Katembenuka, Robson Chinhoi and Ignatius Mketekete are tied for seventh on two-under-par 70.
