ZAMBIAN amateur golfer Michael Chuma got his Faldo Junior Tour Grand Final campaign at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), off to a brilliant start after the opening round on Tuesday.
In the boys’ Under-21 division, he holds a one-shot lead over Sweden’s Filip Grave and Hungary’s Bence Bertenyi, who share second place on two-under-par 68. He is tied for second place with Sweden’s Theodor Kruus on the overall standings. The Nkana Golf Club member dropped just a single shot in his opening round. He made four birdies, on holes four, seven, nine, and 18, while his only bogey came on the fifth. The boys’ Under-21 category also features Zimbabwe’s Toby Ellis, who is tied for 13th on two-over-par 72, while Kenya’s Krish Beiju Shah is tied for 18th on four-over-par 74. Zimbabwe’s Darlington Chikanyambidze is tied for 24th on six-over-par 76. In the Under-16 boys’ category, Kenya’s Yuvraj Singh Rajput is tied for 14th on eight-over-par 78. In the girls’ Under-21 category, Kenya’s Hazel Kuria sits in 16th place on 12-over-par 82, followed by Zimbabwe’s Lily Ascott on 13-over-par 83. Kenya’s Kanana Muthomi is tied for 15th in the Under-16 girls’ event after opening with a four-over-par 74 while Zimbabwe’s Listiah Bangura is in 23rd place on 16-over-par 86.
