PIETER Coetzee held his nerve to win the Nomads North and South Junior Championship (boys) after a three-way play-off, while Isabella Han secured the girls’ title with a one-stroke victory over Megan Marais at Pecanwood Golf and Country Club in Hartbeespoort, South Africa.
It marked Coetzee’s maiden national title. In the boys’ event, Coetzee opened with a three-under-par 69, which saw him share the lead at the top of the leaderboard alongside Jayden Jacobs, Dian Kruger, Juvandre Oliver, Nicolas Hollander, and Stephan van Rooyen. He followed up his 69 with an impressive five-under-par 67 on moving day – the joint-lowest round of the tournament, tied with Nicholas Thompson, also in the second round. After his superb 67, Coetzee opened up a three-shot lead at the top over Jacobs, Kruger, and Dewan de Bruin. His stellar second round featured an eagle on the 12th, four birdies, and just one bogey. He then closed with a one-over-par 73, resulting in a share of the lead and a play-off. Ressell finished with round scores of 70, 71, and 68, while Du Toit carded 71, 69, and 69. In the girls’ championship, Han opened with a six-over-par 78, placing her in third, five shots behind Phenyo Sebata, who began with a 73. On moving day, Han climbed the leaderboard to sit just one shot behind Marais, who had taken over the lead. Han carded a second-round 73, leaving her on an overall seven-over heading into the final round. She then signed for a closing 75, which was enough to overturn Marais’ lead and win the championship.
Marais recorded round scores of 76, 74, and 77. Sebata finished third on 13-over-par 229, with rounds of 73, 79, and 77.
