SOUTH African professional Yurav Premlall wrote his name into the history books following a commanding 14-shot victory over compatriot Shaun Norris at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship held at Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday.
He now also holds the record for the second-largest margin of victory in golf, just one shot behind Woods’ 15 at the 2000 US Open. It was also the largest margin of victory in a non-major in DP World Tour history. Interestingly, had he only played on the weekend, he would still have won the tournament by four shots. Premlall’s 28-under-par is now also the fifth-lowest winning score in DP World Tour history after Ernie Els (-31), Jordan Smith (-30), Mark McNulty (-29) and Els (-29). “I have no words. I have worked so hard to get into this position and it’s so rewarding to finally see the results of it. The last eight or nine months have been such a struggle just to build myself onto a platform where I know I can give myself a chance to win and to end up in this position, I’m just so grateful and it’s a dream come true,” said Premlall after his win (via DP World Tour). He added: “I had a goal today which was to execute every shot until that final putt goes in, no matter what the result was. I can’t give myself enough credit today and i’m not really a person to say that but it was probably the most complete performance put through just purely because of how i executed my process. It’s so rewarding. The fans have been great the whole week, this week in Spain has been one to remember and grateful for all the sponsors and everyone who made this week possible.” The 22-year-old opened the tournament with a two-under-par 70, followed by a bogey-free eight-under-par 64 where he picked up eight birdies. On moving day, he carded a brilliant near-flawless 63, dropping just a single shot. He picked up birdies at holes one, two, five, seven and nine, while dropping a shot at the eighth for an outward 32. After the turn, he added five more birdies at holes 10, 14, 16, 17 and 18 for an inward 31. He broke the course record with his 63 on moving day, which earned him US$50 000. Premlall then closed with yet another brilliant 63. He had a flawless front nine, picking up birdies at holes one, three, four, five, eight and nine for an outward 30. After the turn, he made back-to-back birdies at holes 12 and 13, dropped a shot at the 14th but recovered with further birdies at holes 17 and 18 for an inward 33. Second-placed Norris finished on 14-under-par 274 while JC Ritchie shared third place with Alejandro Del Rey and Oihan Guillamoundeguy on 13-under-par 275.
Following his win, Premlall leapt to 26th on the 2026 Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World, up from 157th.
