It was Sandhu’s second title in the space of a week, having also won the NCBA Limuru Open. Sunday’s victory also saw him successfully defend the Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship title that he won last year.

It was his fourth victory of the season, following triumphs at the Windsor Classic, Muthaiga Open and Limuru Open.

Sandhu and Balala finished tied on three-over-par 291 after 72 holes, two shots clear of the rest of the field, forcing a play-off which Sandhu went on to win.

Starting the final round tied for fourth on two-over-par 218, Sandhu carded a closing one-over-par 73 that featured one birdie and two bogeys.

He bogeyed the seventh and eighth holes on the front nine to go out in 38. He then produced a flawless back nine, birdieing the 13th for an inward 35 to climb three places up the leaderboard and finish tied for first.

Balala, who held a one-shot lead heading into the final round, signed for a closing three-over-par 75.

Kamoza Longwe and John Kamaisi shared third place on five-over-par 293, while Hitayezu Jean D’amour and Shashwat Harish tied for fifth on six-over-par 294.

Gilbert Chalwe finished seventh on seven-over-par 295, with Pranay Kapur eighth on nine-over-par 297. Paul Nguni and Alex Mwangi shared ninth place on 11-over-par 299.
