DANIEL Bennett put in a brilliant performance that helped the Texas Longhorns secure a second-place team finish at the Williams Cup, while also finishing as runner-up on the individual leaderboard at the tournament held at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina, United States.
On the team leaderboard, the Texas Longhorns were 12 shots adrift of eventual champions, the Florida Gators. Texas finished with a team score of three-under-par 861, while Florida posted a total of 15-under-par 849. They were the only two teams to record under-par totals. Bennett opened the tournament with a near-flawless eight-under-par 68 where he dropped just a single shot. He picked up a birdie on the par-five sixth hole, his only one in the front nine for an outward one-under-par 35. He made a birdie on the par-three 10th hole, followed by another one on the par-five 12th and the par-four 14th. His only bogey in the first round came on the par-three 15th hole before going on to close with another birdie on the par-five 18th. In the second round, Bennett carded one-under-par 71 with three birdies and two bogeys. He picked up birdies on the fourth, 15th and 18th holes while dropping shots on number three and 17. He closed with another 71, carding four birdies and three boys. He picked up birdies on number three, six, 12 and 18 while bogeying three consecutive holes, number nine, 10 and 11, missing the top spot by just a single shot. The individual winner, Stevens, carded round scores of 70, 67 and 72.
On the team leaderboard, Texas had three round scores of 284, 287 and 290 while the winners, Florida, recorded, 276, 276 and 297.
