SOUTH Africa have maintained their position as the highest-ranked African nation after the second round of the 2025 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship (WATC), currently underway at Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore.
Morocco and Kenya, the other two African nations competing for the Espirito Santo Trophy, are in 31st and 35th place respectively. South Africa carded a team score of four-over-par 148 on Thursday’s with Megan Streicher and Kyra van Kan contributing to the team’s total. Streicher carded another one-under-par 71 while Van Kan and Bobbi Brown both shot five-over-par 77. Streicher’s round featured two birdies and one bogey. Morocco posted a second round team score of eight-over-par 152 with Rim Imni and Sofia Cherif Essakali contributing. Imni shot two-over-par 74 while Essakali signed for a six-over-par 78. Their teammate, Maria Eidhagen Harrouch shot seven-over-par 79. They are on an overall team score of 17-over-par 305. In Thursday's round, Kanana Muthomi and Kellie Gachaga contributed to Kenya’s 14-over-par 158, both carding identical scores of seven-over-par 79 while their teammate, Ashley Awuor shot 12-over-par 84. Kenya’s overall team score is 34-over-par 322. Republic of Korea top the team leaderboard on 13-under-par 275. On the individual leaderboard, Streicher is also the highest placed African golfer, tied for position 13 on two-under-par 142. She is five shots behind the leader, Soomin Oh of the Republic of Korea. Imni is tied for position 67 with a score of seven-over-par 151. Brown is tied for position 79 on nine-over-par 153 while Van Kan and Essakali are part of a seven-way tie for position 81 on 10-over-par 154.
The Kenyan duo of Muthomi and Gachaga are tied for position 95 on 17-over-par 161 while Harrouch is tied for 100th on 18-over-par 162. Kenya’s Awuor is in position 105 with a score of 26-over-par 170.
