ONE of Zimbabwe’s leading amateur golfers, Tanaka Chatora put in a brilliant display to win the 2025 Zimbabwe Matchplay held at ZRP Golf Club in Harare over the weekend.
Chatora faced Tom Sinclair in the semi-finals while Muchenje was up against Elton Zulu in the other last four match. For Muchenje, it was another close call having been eliminated in the semi-finals at last year’s event. In an interview with Golf Africa, Chatora described his victory as bittersweet, as he was competing against close friends. Nonetheless, he expressed satisfaction with his overall performance over the three days of competition “I am pleased with how I play, it was nice but there were some mixed emotions because was playing with my friends. You want to beat them and at the same time they are your friends that you have played around with for a long time. I am happy with the victory, the course was in good condition, and it was a good Matchplay course. My putting was very good and the competition was also good,” said Chatora. The Zim Matchplay marked Chatora's last amateur event in Zimbabwe for the foreseeable future as he is set to begin college next month. He said it was an honour to have won the championship and is looking forward to playing more events whenever he is back home during holidays. In the third place play-off match, Zulu (40 points) beat Sinclair (35 points) to take the number three spot while Shijie Li (30 points) beat Shepard Chiwaya (25 points) in the play-off for position five and six.
