Tawana Mangoma

TAWANA Mangoma fought hard to secure a play-off victory over Munyaradzi Sithole at the Mashonaland East Amateur tournament held at Marondera Golf Club on Sunday.

Mangoma won the championship on the first play-off hole after finishing tied with Sithole on level-par 216 following 54 holes of regulation play. It was his maiden victory.

Having opened with a four-over-par 76 on Saturday morning, Mangoma followed it up with a brilliant four-under-par 68 in the second round later the same day, the lowest round of the tournament. He then closed with a level-par 72. His final round featured five birdies and five bogeys. On the front nine, Mangoma picked up birdies at the third and fifth holes, while dropping shots at the seventh and eighth. After the turn, he added three more birdies at the 10th, 13th and 15th, while bogeying the 12th, 14th and 18th.

Sithole carded rounds of 73, 72 and 71, while Munesu Chimhini finished third on one-over-par 217 with scores of 75, 70 and 72.
