ANDRIES van der Vyver produced a commanding performance to secure a four-shot victory over Oliver Scriven at the Cape Town Junior Open, held at Robertson Golf Club in South Africa on Sunday.

The 18-year-old Van der Vyver was in superb form throughout the tournament, dropping just a single shot over 54 holes of golf. He also set a new course record with a breathtaking 12-under-par 60 in the final round to complete a dominant display.

He finished the tournament on 27-under-par 189 while second placed Scriven carded 23-under-par 193. Van der Vyver opened the championship with a bogey-free eight-under-par 64 which placed him in second place, one shot behind Scriven who had opened with a nine-under-par 63. His opening round featured eight birdies. On the front nine, he picked up birdies on holes number one, eight and nine. After the turn, he shot five birdies, including four consecutive on holes 10, 11, 12, and 13. He added another one on the 16th hole. He followed that up with yet another bogey-free round on moving day, shooting seven-under-par 65 to take a one-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard. His round featured seven birdies, five on the front nine and two on the back nine. Van der Vyver entered the final round on 15-under-par 129 and produced a performance for the ages on Sunday to claim the top honours. In 18 holes, he carded an astonishing 13 birdies, dropping just a single shot in the process. Van der Vyver opened with a birdie on the first hole and followed it up with four consecutive more on number four, five, six and seven. He then picked up five more birdies on the trot, on number nine, 10, 11, 12, and 13, followed by a bogey on the 14th. He then closed the round with three consecutive birdies on the 16th, 17th and 18th.

Second placed Scriven carded round scores of 63, 67 and 63 while in third place, Evan Marais shot 16-under-par 200 with rounds of 67, 67 and 66.
