A near-flawless final round of five-under-par 65 propelled Jean Hugo to a one-shot victory over Nikhil Rama at the SunBet Challenge hosted by Wild Coast Sun at Wild Coast Sun Country Club in South Africa on Friday.

Hugo finished the tournament on eight-under-par 202 after 54 holes to be crowned champion.

The veteran Sunshine Tour campaigner went into the final round sharing 11th place on three-under-par 137, two shots behind the leading trio of Rama, James Mack and Keagan Thomas.

He then produced a flawless front nine, picking up three birdies at the second, fourth and eighth holes for an outward 32.

After the turn, Hugo dropped a shot at the 11th, his only blemish of the final round, before recovering with three consecutive birdies at the 12th, 13th and 14th holes for an inward 33, which proved enough to see off the rest of the field and win the tournament.

Runner-up Rama closed with a 68, featuring five birdies and three bogeys, to finish on seven-under-par 203. Luke Brown, Jonathan Broomhead, Jason Roets, Benjamin Kedochim and Thomas shared third place on six-under-par 204.

Jean-Paul Strydom and Samuel Simpson finished tied for eighth place on five-under-par 205, while Tyran Snyders and Stuart Krog shared 10th place on four-under-par 206.

For the win, Hugo earned 380.40 Order of Merit points.
