BOBBI Brown produced a commendable performance to secure a top-10 finish at the fiercely competitive English Women’s Open Strokeplay Championship, held at Alwoodley Golf Club in North Leeds, England.

The GolfRSA number one, and the only African golfer to make the cut, finished tied for sixth place on level-par 292 after 72 holes of golf. She ended the tournament six strokes behind England’s Saddie Adams, who claimed the title on six-under-par 286.

Brown began the England Golf-sanctioned event in impressive fashion, carding a three-under-par 70 in the opening round. Her score included three birdies, an eagle on the par-five eighth hole, and back-to-back bogeys on the 11th and 12th. Following the first round, Brown shared the lead with Adams and Ella Butteriss. She followed her strong start with a steady level-par 73 in the second round, which saw bogeys on the 13th and 16th holes. In round three, Brown posted a two-over-par 75 that included five birdies, three bogeys, and two double bogeys on the 13th and 15th. Heading into the final round just two shots behind the leader, Brown closed with a one-over-par 74, carding three birdies and four bogeys to secure her top-six result.

The only other African participant, Aalaa Somji of Tanzania, missed the cut after returning scores of 81 and 85, finishing on 20-over-par.
