SOUTH African teams produced dominant displays to claim both the boys’ and girls’ trophies at the 2026 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC), held at Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya.

The boys’ team secured a commanding 35-shot victory over Kenya, while the girls’ side registered a 19-shot win, also over Kenya. South Africa’s boys’ team finished on 22-under-par, with second-placed Kenya carding a team total of 13-over-par. In the girls’ category, South Africa finished on a team total of 14-under-par, while runners-up Kenya carded five-over-par.

Morocco finished third in both the boys’ and girls’ events. Spearheading South Africa’s junior boys’ victory was Andries van der Vyver, who won the individual title with a score of 15-under-par 201, with team-mate Cilliers Craig finishing second on three-under-par 213. Having opened with a 68, followed by a bogey-free 65, Van der Vyver closed with another four-under-par 68 to secure a wire-to-wire victory. In his final round, Van der Vyver picked up three birdies at the first, third and fifth, while dropping a shot at the second for an outward 34. After the turn, he made a double bogey at the 11th but recovered with birdies at the 12th, 15th, 16th and 18th for an inward 34. Second-placed Craig carded rounds of 72, 66 and 75. Dewan De Bruin, also from South Africa, completed the top three, finishing on two-under-par 214 with rounds of 72, 71 and 71. In the girls’ division, South Africa’s Lourenda Steyn claimed the individual title, carding an impressive eight-under-par 208. Steyn, who recorded 71s in her first two rounds, closed with a six-under-par 66, which included an eagle, seven birdies and three bogeys. She had a flawless front nine, picking up three consecutive birdies at the first, second and third, followed by an eagle at the fifth and two more birdies at the seventh and ninth for an outward 29. After the turn, she bogeyed the 10th, birdied the 13th, dropped another shot at the 14th and added a birdie at the 16th. She dropped a further shot at the 18th for an inward 37. Phenyo Sebata finished second on one-over-par 217 with rounds of 69, 69 and 79. In third place was Kenya’s Bianca Ngecu on five-over-par 221 with rounds of 74, 70 and 76.

Both the South African boys’ and girls’ teams have qualified for the prestigious Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
