A CLINICAL final round seven-under-par 65 saw Darlington Chikanyambidze add his name to the illustrious list of Bata Power Open winners, securing a commanding six-shot victory over Shepard Chiwaya at the 2025 edition held at Gweru Golf Club over the weekend.

His closing 65 was the best round of the tournament and he finished as the only player with a sub-par total after 54 holes of golf, carding two-under-par 214.

It was his first victory of the season. Speaking to Golf Africa, Chikanyambidze said it was an honour to win the Bata Power Open, describing the victory as a major confidence booster. He also paid tribute to the staff at Gweru Golf Club for maintaining the course in pristine condition. “I am proud to have won the Bata Power Open and winning such a big tournament is a huge motivation and confidence booster. The course was playing great l just want to thank Gweru for making the course great, they are doing a good job. See you again next year, thank you Gweru,” said Chikanyambidze. Chikanyambidze opened the championship with a three-over-par 75, leaving him four shots behind the leader, Notice Gono, who carded an opening one-under-par 71. Chikanyambidze was tied on 75 with Chiwaya. In the second round, Chikanyambidze shot a 74 to take the lead, holding a one-stroke advantage over Chiwaya, who posted another 75. He then signed off with a brilliant closing 65 to secure the title.

Chiwaya finished on four-over-par 220 with round scores of 75, 75, and 70. Absolom Phiri and Blessing Gondo tied for third on 10-over-par 226.
