ZIMBABWE’S leading amateur golfer, Keegan Shutt had a dream college debut after finishing tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard at The Poss High Country Shootout held at The Links at Sierra Blanca, in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Shutt, who recently began his studies at Odessa College in Texas, finished his maiden tournament on 15-under-par 201, just four shots behind individual winner and teammate Jules De Brauwere who carded 19-under-par 197. Their institution secured the team championship by one shot over Midland College.

Odessa College ended the event with a combined score of 58-under-par. Shutt opened the tournament with a three-under-par 69 which included six birdies, one bogey and one double bogey. He followed it up with a breathtaking bogey-free second round. In the second round where he carded an impressive nine-under-par 69, Shutt recorded seven birdies and an eagle. He picked up three consecutive birdies on holes number four, five and six. Followed by an eagle on the par-five seventh hole. He added another trio of consecutive birdies on number 12, 13 and 14 with his last of the round coming on number 16, capping off a solid show. He then closed with another 69, where he made seven birdies and four bogeys. He made bogey on the fourth hole before picking up three consecutive birdies on the following three holes. He made back to back bogeys on number 10 and 11, made par on the 12th and picked up birdies on the 13th and 14th. He dropped a shot on number 16 and birdied the 18th hole.

Meanwhile, Shutt’s compatriot, Tanaka Chatora who is at Weatherford College finished tied for position 41 on three-under-par 213. He carded round scores of 71, 74 and 68. Chatora’s college finished in position four on the team leaderboard on 39-under.
