GODFREY Nsubuga had a brilliant start to the new college year with a joint second place finish at the Rodeo at the Ridge held at Quail Ridge Country Club in Sanford, North Carolina.

The Ugandan golfer, representing Winston-Salem State University who also finished second in the team contest, carded two-over-par 218 to share the runner-up spot with Jack McCarthy of Fayetteville State.

The individual championship was secured by Wyatt Beaver, who finished on five-under-par 211. Following his impressive performance, Nsubuga was named to the All-Tournament team. He opened the tournament with a level-par 72 on round one which included three birdies, as many bogeys and an eagle. The eagle came at the par-five 14th hole. He then went on to produce a brilliant second round performance, signing for a five-under-par 67 featuring an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys. Nsubuga made birdie on number four, dropped a shot on number seven then picked up back to back birdies on the eighth and ninth. Nsubuga dropped another shot on the 10th hole before picking up two more birdies on 12 and 14. He made an eagle on the par-five 16th hole. The final round proved challenging for Nsubuga as he shot seven-over-par 79 with three birdies, four bogeys and two double bogeys.

The Winston-Salem State University team finished with a team score of 31-over-par, behind Sandhills Community College on 16-over-par. Bluefield State came in third on 40-over-par, followed by Chowan at 49-over-par and host Fayetteville State at 54-over-par.
