NIGERIAN professional Godwin Okoko entered the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing (SDT-EAS) winners’ circle with a one-shot victory at the Rift Valley Championship at Nakuru Golf Club on Tuesday.

It was Okoko’s maiden Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing title.

Okoko finished the tournament on 10-under-par 209, while runner-up Simon Njogu carded nine-under-par 210.

Speaking after his victory, Okoko said it was the result of the hard work he had put in throughout the season.

“I’m very happy to win my first title on the Sunshine Development Tour. I’ve been working hard throughout the season, and it feels good to see that effort pay off. The course tested us, but I stayed focused, took my opportunities and kept pushing until the end. This win gives me a lot of confidence as I prepare for the next event back home in Nigeria,” said Okoko (via Sunshine Development Tour).

After opening with a two-over-par 75, Okoko produced a brilliant seven-under-par 66 in the second round before closing with a five-under-par 68 to secure the title.

On his front nine, Okoko picked up birdies at the third and fourth holes before dropping a shot at the fifth. He added another birdie at the sixth but bogeyed the eighth to make the turn in 35.

On the back nine, he birdied the 10th and 11th holes before dropping a shot at the 12th. He then eagled the 16th and birdied the 17th to card an inward nine of 33.
