YOUNG golf prodigies Kyle Johnson of Namibia and Laurenda Steyn from South Africa secured top-10 finishes in the boys’ and girls’ respective events at the 2025 Mandiri Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World Championship, held at Damai Indah (PIK Course) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Johnson opened the tournament with an impressive three-under-par 69, placing him third after the first round. The Namibian’s opening effort included five birdies and two bogeys. He followed up with a level-par 72 in the second round, consisting of four birdies and four bogeys. He signed off with a closing two-under-par 70 in the third and final round, where he notched up four birdies and two bogeys. He finished six shots behind the winner, Rayhan Abdul Latief of Indonesia. South Africa’s Tynan Vermeulen tied for 14th place on three-over-par 219, while fellow South African Jayden Reginald Hoskins tied for 26th on eight-over-par 224. Kenya’s Junaid Ayaz Manji finished 43rd with a score of 18-over-par 234, while compatriot Tsevi Soni tied for 52nd on 25-over-par 241. In the girls’ championship, Steyn shot a one-under-par 71 in the first round, comprising two birdies and one bogey. The second round proved more challenging as she carded a three-over-par 75, which included three birdies and five bogeys.
Steyn closed out the tournament with another 71, finishing seven shots behind the winner, Prim Prachnakorn of Thailand, who claimed victory on six-under-par 210. Among the other African participants in the girls’ division, Megan Marais from South Africa tied for 26th place on 14-over-par 230. Zimbabwe’s Miriam Masiya finished 33rd on 24-over-par 240, while Onyadile Tuduetso of Botswana tied for 41st on 47-over-par 263.
