A BRILLIANT second round one-under-par 71 saw Jordan Vaughn Groenewald maintain his lead at the top of the NTT Data Junior U15 Open, taking place in George, Western Cape, South Africa.

The 14-year-old Groenewald sits on level-par 144 and holds a commanding eight-stroke lead over Jarryd Froy. His 71 is one of only two under-par rounds recorded so far in the tournament, the other being Dandre Allers’ 70.

Groenewald had opened with a one-over-par 73 on day one. The highlight of Groenewald’s superb second round was a flawless back nine 32, which included four birdies. In total, his round featured five birdies and four bogeys, firmly cementing his position at the top of the leaderboard. He dropped shots on the third and fourth holes followed by another bogey on the sixth hole. He then recovered with a birdie on the eighth but dropped another shot on the ninth hole. His back nine was exceptional, picking up birdies on holes number 11, 12, 14 and 16 to cap off a good day’s performance.

Second placed Froy has a score of eight-over-par 152 with rounds of 80 and 72 while in third place, Aiden Combrinck has a score of nine-over-par 153 having carded 78 and 75.
