MOMBASA Golf Club made history when they were crowned champions on the 100th edition of the Tannahill Shield Easter Golf Tournament held at Royal Nairobi Golf Club in Kenya. The newly crowned champions of Kenya’s most prestigious inter-club golf tournament finished with a gross of 48 points, nine ahead of second placed Muthaiga Golf Club on 39.

To make is more memorable, this was their first victory and it came at a time when the event was celebrating 100 years of existence.

The Mombasa Golf Club team comprised of captain Gurbux Singh, manager Erick Nyongesa, Adel Balala, William Odeck, Sammy Mulama, Josphat Rono, Henry Kamau, Feisal Lasker, George Munyao, Charles Rob, and Nathan Ngweno. Mombasa set the pace early with 12 points on round one before going on to secure a tournament high 15 points on the second round. In the penultimate round, they accrued 10 points before a closing 11 points on the fourth and final round. “This win means the world to us, not just because it’s the 100th edition, but because of what it took to get here. Every player gave it their all, and this moment reflects months of hard work, discipline, and belief. We’re immensely grateful to NCBA for walking with us over the last three years. This trophy is just as much theirs as it is ours,” said captain, Singh.

Kenya Railway Golf Club and Vet Lab Sports Club tied for third place with 35 points while Sigona Golf Club and the Western Kenya Team tied for fifth with 30 points. Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club secured seventh place with 29 points, while the hosts, Royal Nairobi finished in position eight with 26 points. Limuru Country Club anchored the leaderboard with 16 points. A total of nine clubs competed at the event.
