A quartet comprising Shaun Norris, Jonathan Broomhead, Gabriel Morgan and Daniel Cronje share a one-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard following the opening round of the SunBet Challenge Time Square Casino which teed off at Wingate Park Country Club on Wednesday.

The four players all opened with seven-under-par 65s to share the lead.

Norris produced a flawless round, making birdies at the first, second and fifth holes for an outward 33. On his back nine, he added further birdies at the 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 18th to come home in 32.

Defending champion Broomhead birdied the first before eagling the second, but dropped a shot at the fourth. He responded with birdies at the sixth and seventh to card an outward 31.

On the back nine, he added three more birdies at the 12th, 15th and 18th for an inward 34.

“It’s nice to come back and put a score on the board,” said Broomhead (via Sunshine Tour).

Morgan also dropped just a single shot after a flawless outward nine that featured an eagle at the sixth and a birdie at the eighth for an outward 32. On the back nine, he made three consecutive birdies at the 10th, 11th and 12th before adding another at the 15th. He bogeyed the 17th but recovered with a birdie at the 18th to card an inward 33.

Cronje also enjoyed an excellent outward nine, making five consecutive birdies from the first to the fifth to go out in a scintillating 30. On the back nine, he added birdies at the 11th and 13th before dropping a shot at the 17th. He finished strongly with a birdie at the 18th for an inward 35.

Five players, Michael Hollick, Augustine Errazuriz, Travis Procter, Travis Ladner and Kyle de Beer – are tied for fifth place on six-under-par 66.
