Israa Bouamor

FOLLOWING her triumph at the recently concluded 2024/2025 Tunisia Golf Championship at the La Cigale Tabarka Golf Course, the women’s champion, Israa Bouamor has been admitted into the Africa High Performance Programme (AHPP) squad for 2025 by the R&A. The R&A stated that the Tunisian star’s selection into the AHPP squad is no fluke as she has demonstrated immense potential. Her inclusion is based on her skills and and consistent performance, further reinforcing her status as one of the continent’s brightest prospects.

“Your selection is based on your current skills and performance and recognises your ability and potential in the sport. We believe that being part of this squad is an honour, one that signifies your status as one of the African continent’s most promising athletes.

“It is important to understand that this offer comes with responsibilities and expectations and, as a member of the AHPP Squad, your commitment to excellence must extend beyond the field of play. The AHPP and training camps are designed to enhance your skills, build a positive squad culture, and foster a spirit of excellence and unity among all Squad members,” read a letter from the R&A. The programme is structured around minimal in-person engagements and ongoing remote support, structured and open engagement with the coaching staff which has been described as crucial. “As such, you would be expected to maintain regular communication with your allocated coaches, attend all (in person and virtual) training sessions for which you are selected, and actively participate in feedback and improvement discussions. Additionally, you will be required to use Upgame, our performance analysis platform, to track your progress and identify areas for further development. This tool is integral to your growth and success within the programme,” the letter continued. The R&A added that as a member of the AHPP Squad, Bouamor is now an aspirational figure within her country and across the continent. They said that she will be held in high esteem by her peers and other aspiring athletes and visibility brings with it the responsibility to conduct oneself with integrity, sportsmanship, and professionalism at all times. However, the place in the squad is not guaranteed indefinitely. “Please be aware that your place in this Squad is not guaranteed indefinitely. Continuous effort, improvement, and adherence to our standards are required to maintain your position. We trust that you will embrace this opportunity with the commitment and passion that have brought you this far. “We would be grateful if you would confirm whether you wish to accept this offer or not, and if accepted, please complete and sign the Player Participation Agreement which is provided together with this letter. In the event that you are a minor, the agreement must be signed by both yourself, and your parent/guardian and returned to us. Should you wish to discuss this, we would be happy to do so.”

The letter was signed by Kevin Baker, the golf development director for Africa and Britain and Eden Thompson, the golf development manager for Africa.
