The new member on the Sunshine Tour winners’ circle, Simpson, started the tournament on the backfoot with a level-par 72 which put him five strokes behind Loubser and Hennie Otto who were tied at the top on 67. In the second round, Simpson carded a brilliant seven-under-par 65, the tournament’s lowest round, a score which Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinhoi also shot in the third round. After his brilliant second round performance, Simpson followed it up with a one-under-par 71 in the third round. Simpson teed off the final round five shots behind Loubser. But it was his ability to limit his mistakes on a final day when Loubser struggled to do the same in a round of three bogeys and one double bogey that made the difference.
