ZIMBABWE’S top professional golfer, Scott Vincent is heading to the big stage after securing his ticket to the 2025 U.S. Open, set to be played at the historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania from June 12 to 15.

Vincent secured his qualification via the Japan leg of the U.S. Open Final Qualifying, played on Monday at Tarao Country Club’s West Course in Shiga Prefecture. He joins the South African duo of Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Thriston Lawrence who qualified earlier.

With just three spots available from the tournament, Vincent delivered a stellar performance, carding 10-under-par 134 across 36 holes which were played. He tied for the top position alongside Japan’s Yuta Sugiura after shooting identical rounds of 67. The qualification carries extra weight for Vincent, marking a personal milestone after a period of ups and downs in his career. A former world number 78, no ranked 436, Vincent made waves when he joined LIV Golf, a move that saw him jump between teams before landing with Torque GC under Joaquin Niemann, and later with Kevin Na’s Iron Heads. However, at the conclusion of the 2024 LIV Golf season, Vincent was relegated and replaced by Korean golfer Yubin Yang. Since then, he has been competing on the Asian Tour. Adding a bit of poetic symmetry, the final qualifying spot in Japan went to Jinichiro Kozuma, Vincent’s teammate from the Iron Heads in the previous LIV season, who finished one shot back at nine-under.

Monday also saw simultaneous qualifying events in Dallas, Texas (Bent Tree Country Club), and Walton Heath in England. Ten more qualifiers are scheduled across the U.S. and Canada on June 2, as the full field for the 2025 U.S. Open begins to take shape. It will be the third Major of the year after The Masters and the PGA Championship.
