FOLLOWING the conclusion of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at La Réserve Golf Links on Sunday, the 2026 DP World Tour Opening Swing came to an end, with South Africans Daniel van Tonder and Michael Hollick producing solid performances.
After missing the cut at the opening event of the Opening Swing, the BMW Australian PGA Championship in November, Hollick bounced back with a fourth-place finish at the Crown Australian Open, finishing just three shots behind winner Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen. That performance also earned him an exemption into the 154th Open Championship. Following the two tournaments Down Under, Hollick finished tied for ninth at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Royal Johannesburg – East Course where he carded 11-under-par 203. At the finale of the Opening Swing in Mauritius, Hollick again finished tied for ninth, posting a 12-under-par 276. Van Tonder, meanwhile, finished tied for 10th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in honour of Gary Player, carding an eight-under-par 280. At the Alfred Dunhill Championship, the penultimate event of the Opening Swing, he posted a 10-under-par 204 to finish tied for 14th. He then rounded off his campaign with a tie for 15th place finish at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open after carding an 11-under-par 277, capping off a consistent Opening Swing. The Opening Swing launched the 2026 DP World Tour season and featured five events across three countries. It is the first of five Global Swings on the Tour’s 2026 schedule. The season is structured into three distinct phases, starting with the Global Swings, followed by the Back 9, before culminating in the DP World Tour Play-Offs in November. The player who earns the most Race to Dubai points across the five events will be crowned Opening Swing champion and earn entry into all events in Phase Two of the season - the Back 9: the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, Omega European Masters, Amgen Irish Open, BMW PGA Championship, FedEx Open de France, Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Open de España presented by Madrid, DP World India Championship and Genesis Championship.
South Africa’s Jayden Schaper claimed the Opening Swing title after completing back-to-back victories at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Across his three appearances, the 24-year-old secured two wins and a runner-up finish.
