Lawrence began the second day of the championship in an 11-way tie for 17th after opening with a three-under-par 69, and produced a brilliant display to surge up the leaderboard at the halfway mark of the tournament. His flawless round comprised three birdies and an eagle. He collected back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes, followed by an eagle on the par-five eighth for an outward four-under 32. On the back nine, Lawrence added a further birdie on the 14th hole for an inward one-under 35, completing a solid performance. Casey Jarvis, who opened with a flawless 66, slipped to a tie for 14th following a second-round 71. He carded three birdies and two bogeys to sit on an overall seven-under-par 137. Zander Lombard and Jayden Schaper are part of a seven-way tie for 17th on six-under-par 138, while Thomas Aiken is tied for 32nd on four-under-par 140 with rounds of 72 and 68. The other South Africans in the field who made the cut, Robin Williams, Darren Fichardt, Richard Sterne and Jacques Kruyswijk, are all tied for 58th on two-under-par 142.
