CHILEAN professional Tomas Gana holds the lead following the opening round of the 2026 FBC Zimbabwe Open at Royal Harare Golf Club on Thursday.
Six golfers, Merrick Bremner, Allen John, Gabriel Morgan, Jaco Prinsloo, Austin Bautista and Ryan van der Klis share second place on six-under-par 66. Gana enjoyed a flawless front nine, picking up birdies at the third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth holes for an outward 31. On the back nine, he made a bogey at the 10th before recovering with an eagle at the 12th, followed by a birdie at the 14th for an inward 34. With Gana setting the pace at the top of the leaderboard, Robson Chinhoi is leading the local Zimbabwean contingent after opening with a near-flawless three-under-par 69. Chinhoi made an eagle at the seventh, followed by a birdie at the eighth for an outward 33. He added another birdie at the 10th before dropping a shot at the 15th for an inward 36. He is tied for 20th position. Newly turned professionals Michael Wallace and Darlington Chikanyambidze, alongside Stuart Krog, are tied for 35th position. The Zimbabwean trio all opened with two-under-par 70s. Ryan Cairns is tied for 53rd position on one-under-par 71, while one of the local favourites, Kieran Vincent, and amateur Thomas Sinclair are tied for 67th position after opening with level-par 72s. The remaining members of the local contingent opened with over-par scores.
The FBC Zimbabwe Open is the country’s premier golf tournament and the second event of the new Sunshine Tour season.
