SOUTH AFRICAN professional golfer, Brandon Stone put in a solid performance that saw him finish in position 23 at the DP World Tour sanctioned Hainan Classic at Blackstone Course, Mission Hills Resort Haikou, Hainan Island, China.

Stone carded a closing round 71 to finish on an overall six-under-par-282, tied with seven other golfers. He was the best placed African golfer at the tournament, with Zander Lombard (-2) finishing tied for position 48 while Deon Germishuys and Robin Williams (+1) tied for position 58.

The 32 year old Stone carded two-under-par-70 in the first round with four birdies and two bogeys before following it up with his best outing at the tournament, a three-under-par-69 in the second round which left him on five-under-par-139 going into the tournament’s penultimate round. His second round consisted of five birdies and two bogeys. Making two birdies on hole one and two on the third round, Stone would go on to shoot an even-par round consisting of four birdies and as many bogey. The South African national then signed off for a closing one-under-par-71 in the fourth and final round of the championship. He was then tied with Mathew Baldwin (England), Davis Bryant (USA), Grant Forrest (Scotland), Alexander Levy (France), Andrea Pavan (Italy), Ben Schmidt (England), and Andy Sullivan (England). He gained 35.17 points.

Marco Penge secured his maiden DP World Tour title after signing for a closing 67 to win the 2025 Hainan Classic by three shots. The Englishman started the day in a share of the lead with home favourite Bowen Xiao but found himself one shot behind a charging Sean Crocker as he began the back nine on Sunday. Three consecutive birdies on holes 12, 13 and 14 put Penge ahead on his 47th Tour start. Penge also booked his ticket to the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club after coming third on the Asian Swing standings.
