IVAN Verster stuck to his guns to secure a wire-to-wire, three shots victory over Ruben van der Berg at the Western Province Amateur Championship which concluded on Wednesday at Milnerton Golf Club in Cape Town, South Africa.

Verster carded a flawless five-under-par 65, played on a day where they completed 36 holes, to clinch the championship in memorable fashion. He finished the tournament on 13-under-par 267.

He began the day with a narrow one shot lead over Ethan Gough. He then signed for a third round two-under-par 68 which saw him maintain a one stroke advantage, this time over Cole Cruickshank. His third round featured six birdies and four bogeys. Verster made back to back birdies on the second and third holes and picked up another one on the fifth. He, however, closed his front nine with back to back bogeys on holes eight and nine. On the back nine, Verster made birdies on number 10, 12 and 18 while dropping shots on number 14 and 16. It was a bogey-free final round 65 that sealed the championship for Verster. He shot five birdies, three on the front nine and two on the back nine. He made birdies on holes number two, four, seven, 10 and 12 in the final round.

Second placed Van der Berg finished on 10-under-par 270 with round scores of 72, 66, 68 and 64. Logan Leisher and Vuyisani Makama finished tied for third on seven-under-par 273.
