NJOROGE Kibugu produced a stellar performance to win the opening event of the 2025/2026 Sunshine Development Tour - East Africa Swing season at Thika Greens Golf Resort in Nairobi, Kenya on Thursday.

The 21 year old Kibugu of Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club signed for a closing bogey free 67 to register a five-stroke victory over Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera, carding an impressive 15-under-par 201 to claim the top accolade.

The Kenyan star made his motives clear as early as the first round of the tournament as he carded a bogey free super-round eight-under-par 64 to set the pace early. His super round on Tuesday comprised of eight birdies, four in the front nine and as many in his back nine. Following Tuesday’s super round, Kibugu went on to card a second round two-under-par 70 which took him to an overall 10-under after 36 holes. His second round was made up of five birdies and three bogeys, with two of the bogeys coming in his back nine while one was in the front nine where he also shot two birdies. On Thursday, Kibugu was on song again, signing for a closing 67, yet again, bogey free. His final round comprised of five birdies. He shot his only front nine birdie on the par-five fourth hole. In his back nine, he shot four birdies, including back to back on number 16 and 17. Second placed Nsanzuwera, who finished on 10-under-par 206 had round scores of 73, 65 and 68 while third placed CJ Wangai shot eight-under-par 208 with rounds of 73, 67 and 68 to complete the podium finish.

With his resounding victory, Kibugu gained 210 Sunshine Development Tour- East Africa Swing Order of Merit points. The Sunshine Development Tour now heads to Ruiru Sports Club for the second leg, set for June 9 to 11.
