STINGER Golf Club, the all-South African team competing in the LIV Golf League, announced earlier this week that it has officially rebranded as Southern Guards GC, just months before the league tees off on African soil for the first time.

As part of its new brand identity, Southern Guards is inspired by the principle of Ubuntu, with the phrase “I am because we are,” at the heart of a collective strength built through shared purpose and national identity.

The rhino, deeply rooted in South African culture, is central to the team’s new identity. It represents strength and resolve while embodying both competitive toughness and a commitment to legacy. The design draws on distinct South African textures and patterns. The rebrand comes as South Africa prepares to host the first LIV Golf tournament on African soil in March. “This has been an emotional and carefully considered decision, but we felt the time was right to embrace a name and visual identity that more authentically reflect who we are and where we come from. “Southern Guards GC reflects the responsibility we carry in representing South Africa on a global stage. With LIV Golf coming to the country for the first time, the timing could not be more fitting for us to represent our heritage with pride,” said Southern Guards GC General Manager Richard Glover.

Despite the rebrand, the team will retain the same all-South African line-up, featuring Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace, Dean Burmester and Charl Schwartzel.
