AUSTRALIAN professional Austin Bautista claimed his maiden victory on the Betway Big Easy Tour after securing a two-shot win at the fourth event of the season, held at Benoni Country Club on Thursday.

The Sunshine Tour Q-School graduate showcased his quality by carding an impressive 11-under-par 205, edging out South Africa’s Jacquin Hess, who finished on nine-under-par 207.

Thursday’s victory underlines Bautista’s ability to perform at the highest level, as demonstrated on both the Sunshine Tour feeder circuit and the main Tour itself. He finished second at the FBC Zim Open in May. “I’m just riding a tsunami. I’m on top of this gigantic wave, and I’m going to ride it all the way through to a bigger Tour and bigger wins. A lot of hard work goes into it, and it’s not a stroke of luck that I’ve just started playing good golf. It’s hard work, dedication and doing the right stuff,” said Bautista of his current form. He started the tournament with an impressive six-under-par 66 in the first round, which included five birdies—two consecutively on the first and second holes, followed by another three in succession on holes four, five, and six. He made a bogey on the par-four 16th and an eagle on the par-five 18th. Bautista followed that with a one-under-par 71 in the second round, which comprised five birdies and three bogeys. He closed with a final round of four-under-par 68 on Thursday, registering five birdies and a single bogey.

Second-placed Hess recorded round scores of 66, 70, and 71. Completing the podium was Vaughn van Deventer, who finished on six-under-par 210 with rounds of 72, 67, and 71. The Betway Big Easy Tour is the Sunshine Tour’s feeder circuit.
