SOUTH African professional golfer LB Boshoff produced a superb opening round to claim a one-stroke lead at the top of the Betway Big Easy Tour 5 leaderboard after day one at CMR Golf Club in Maraisburg, Roodepoort, South Africa on Tuesday.

Boshoff carded a bogey-free six-under-par 64, securing the clubhouse lead ahead of Jacques van der Merwe, who sits in second place after a five-under-par 65.

Boshoff’s round comprised six birdies. He made four consecutive birdies on holes two, three, four and five. He also birdied number 15 and 18. Van der Merwe recorded eight birdies, including a run of three on the bounce at holes five, six and seven. However, his scorecard was blemished by a triple bogey seven on the par-four second hole, which ultimately prevented him from taking the lead. A tightly packed field follows just behind the top two. Six players are tied for third on four-under-par 66. Regan Steyn, Richard Joubert, Haydn Porteous, Drikus Joubert, Joe Sullivan, and Liam Ross are all tied for third place. A further ten players share ninth position after returning three-under-par 67s. The group includes Jonathan Ackerman, Sean Howell, Bradley De Beer, Louis Liebenberg, David Amm, Jaden Deltel, Teboho Sefatsa, Leon Vorster, Jason Froneman, and Khanya Mkhize.

The Betway Big Easy Tour is the Sunshine Tour’s feeder circuit and enjoys the support of the legendary Ernie Els, among other patrons. The Betway Big Easy Blue Label Invitational is a series which the Big Easy co-hosts with the Bushveld Tour to provide more playing opportunities to members of both tours.
